Mrs. Mackney
I honestly can't remember a time when I wasn't doing something creative! From the moment I could hold a pencil, I’ve been diving into all sorts of art mediums—pencil sketches, vibrant watercolors, oil paints, clay, yarn, all the fabrics, and more. As a kid, I had my heart set on becoming a fashion designer. I wasn’t just in love with the fashion illustrations; I was head over heels for actually making clothes.
My journey through high school was all about art, sewing, and fashion. I loaded up on every class I could find, soaking up knowledge like a sponge. But then came the big crossroads: San Francisco or LA for the big city experience with art and fashion schools, or stay close to my family in Fresno, go to Fresno State, and maybe even kickstart my own fashion business. Spoiler alert: I chose family. They’ve always been my top priority, and being far away just didn’t feel like my kind of happy.
At Fresno State, I mixed it up with Entrepreneurship, Fashion Merchandising, and Art classes. And before I knew it, I had my Teaching credential in hand! Teaching snuck up on me, but it totally makes sense—I was always that student who loved helping others, and now, I get to do it every single day with my awesome students!
I met my soulmate while attending Fresno State and we were married several years later (I sewed my flower girl dresses and his vest!). We now have two children, a boy and a girl.
In my Art and Fashion classes, we're going to explore the wild, wonderful world of creativity and knowledge. We'll get hands-on with different mediums, reflect on our work, and even critique each other’s masterpieces. A lot of people think Art is just drawing and painting, but it’s so much more than that! Art sharpens skills that you can use in any part of life: creativity, problem-solving, self-expression, focus, discipline, collaboration, and even taking risks.
I can’t wait to start another amazing, creative, and super fun year with all of you! Let’s make some art & fashion magic happen!
