Opening & Closing Recordings - Due Today Monday 11/2 in Google Classroom

Opening & Closing Recordings - Due Today Monday 11/2

I may or may not be "in class" today, depending on Lincoln and possible doctor appointments (he is fine, don't worry!). If I am able to, I will be in the main Class Meet and help direct you, but depending on timing I may not be able to do that.

I am scheduling this to post early so that you can email your group to make a plan ahead of time if you would like.

So, instead of presenting "live" you are going to record your group doing Opening/Closing.

To do this, you have a couple of options. One group member will create a Google Meet (you can do this from your email, below your inboxes there should be a New Meet button and one person can create a Meet and then share that meet link with your group members or invite them to the meet with their emails). Or I will also have all of the ones you have been using open on my computer even if I am not "here" so that you can get into them. Choose someone from the group to record your meet while you complete your round of Opening and Closing. Then that person will submit the video of your group.

Each person needs to submit the assignment even if you are not the one submitting the video (add a comment of who from your group is submitting the video) so that I can submit attendance.

Thanks and sorry! Hopefully if I don't see you Monday, I will be able to on Tuesday!

Opening & Closing Speaking Project - Assigned 10/27, Due(Presenting) 10/30 in Google Classroom

Opening & Closing Speaking Project - Assigned 10/27, Due(Presenting) 10/30

You are going to be in teams of 6 that are assigned randomly on the breakout rooms attached. You will each choose a position on the officer team to perform the official Opening and Closing Ceremonies script. This is also a contest at our Sectional Level that you can choose to compete in against other schools from our region! It is great practice for public speaking because you are not alone! You are a team!

The breakout rooms are available to you anytime that your group wants to use them as well this week.

You are going to practice your lines and working together as a team today (Tues), Wednesday, and Thursday. On Friday each team will present the OC Script in class. For the "gavel" your president can just knock on your desk, table, etc. There are spots where you will stand up and sit down as well. It won't be perfect by doing it on video screens, but we are going to have fun and give it a go!

When your group presents, cameras will go on so that I can see you standing, sitting, and not holding the paper in front of your face :)

You will be graded on participation, annunciation (saying words clearly), voice projection and fluctuation (not monotone), fluency (saying your part smoothly and not choppy/as if you are reading it for the first time), etc.

If you are interested in doing this for the real contest in a few weeks (the week before Thanksgiving) let me know ASAP! If you have a team let me know the whole team, if you need a team, let me know too and we will help to find one.

The real contest you will also need Official Dress and we are not sure how the video/virtual/recording parts will go but we will get that info to you when we have it!

#26 2.11 Flame Test Lab - Assigned 10/20, Due 10/26

You are going to work on this as a group/class and individually as needed. It is going to be broken up into chunks throughout the rest of this week as noted below:

Tuesday - Set up your notebook page and to be ready to work your way through the lab format. Today, you will go through the lab sheet and background information and come up with the question/problem for your lab. Then, in your groups, come up with your Claims as answers to the questions provided. Think and write in If, then statements. With details on how you are going to test your claim. Think about what you have learned so far in the reading and previous assignments about the atomic emission spectra. You will share your claims tomorrow in class.

Wednesday - You will share your claims. You will then come up with your procedures for how you would complete the lab given the information on the lab sheet. Think details! Remember you will have a summary portion, step by step portion, and a picture of the set up by the time you are done with your lab. You will/can edit and add more to this after you watch the lab Thursday.

Thursday - Your group will watch the flame lab and collect your data. You will need to create a data table for this. You will have 9 samples to get data on in the video. Also make any edits/additions to your materials/procedures section (the samples in the video are a little different/more than what is listed on the lab sheet).

Friday - Your group will work on the conclusion of the lab. Analyze, Construct an Explanation, Draw Conclusions, and the Expand portions of the lab sheet.

Be sure to make sure your lab is organized, neat, sections are labeled, and check the rubric as well for a refresher!

You will work in your lab group to watch the video and work your way through the lab. BEFORE YOU BEGIN THE LAB, read through the Lab Format AGAIN as a lab group AND the Rubric. You are creating this lab report format in your notebook as you complete the lab. As a group, you can come up with a hypothesis about the relationship between mass and volume and how you might determine that relationship using the given materials (bolts with nuts on them, scale, graduated cylinder, water). You will watch the video of the lab to "collect" the data. Also by watching the video you will be able to create your summary and step by step methodology section. You can work together to discuss the methods and how to write the steps as well as how to analyze the data in order to complete the results and conclusion sections. Your lab is due tomorrow, if you need to discuss further in your group tomorrow you can as well. ALSO REMEMBER YOU CAN MEET UP DURING TUTORIAL AS WELL IF YOU NEED TO.
You can also look at the Master Notebook for links to the lab as well.
Extra reminders:
Be neat and organized in your lab pages!

If they are turned in and many student’s work do not look neat, legible, and complete, then you will also be assigned creating a typed lab report as well.

Follow the template and check the rubric! Read the format and rubric BEFORE you begin as well as checking it DURING and AFTER!

#8 1.6 Lab Equipment "Quiz" and Notes - Assigned & Due 9/9

Follow the link to the website "quiz" on lab equipment. There are 30 items on the quiz. The quiz will tell you if you get each one right or wrong, and you have to get the right answer before moving on. Once you get to the last question/item, you need to screenshot your score to submit. **not graded on that grade, but to show that you completed and made it through all 30 items**

In your Notebook, you can organize the page(s) however they want, but you need to sketch each item, title it, and give a quick note on what it is used for or how it is used in a lab. This will take googling on some items. Some items you may know already. You should submit a pic of their notebook page as well. I would suggest adding to your notebook page as you go through the "quiz" and not going through the quiz and then having to go back through it a 2nd time to add everything to your notebook.

In summary, you are submitting TWO items. A screenshot of the completed "quiz" (10 pts) and a picture of your notebook (10 pts)

#5 1.2 Mass & Change Lab - Submit Pic of Notebook Page(s) for credit. Assigned & Due 9/2

Parts 1, 2, 3 of the lab sheet in your notebook are each worth a total of 10 points, and #4 worth 5 points.

Add the assignment to your TOC and label the page accordingly with title and date.

You will work in breakout groups to go through the lab demos/data that are presented in videos. The lab sheet that is attached is how you will set up your notebook pages. You do not need to re-write questions, but you do need to label, use detail, etc so that you and I both know what you are referring to and talking about in each section.

Observations and answers to questions should be complete thoughts and sentences with detail. For example, instead of answering "it went down" they should have an answer like "The mass of the solution of a and b decreased after a was dissolved in b" In an explain type of question, they should have detailed evidence and reasoning as to what happened/their previous question. "The mass decreased because.....and explain what they saw and/or what they thing happened to cause that."

NOTE on number 3 of the worksheet it states that the mass of the alka seltzer decreased after it was dissolved. However, in our demo, it did not decrease. Instruct them think about why it did not decrease in our demo based on how we set it up, and possibly if the lid had come off while it was dissolving, what would have been the difference? Why would the lid potentially come off? Why would the mass then decrease?

Check out the attached doc with some demos of how to do basic/simple particle drawings. Basically just circles! But different substances should have a different size or shape or color to tell them a part.

If you do not finish in class with your group, you need to finish on your own this afternoon, or you and your group mates may schedule your own meet time in order to finish together - up to you!
