Website Gallery Work in Google Classroom

Website Gallery Work

Hi Guys!
The website looks so great! I have been looking through it and making little tweaks, and I think it is so close to going live!
One thing that I want to see worked on more is the gallery! I think that it is off to a great start but I want to make it more organized.
I would love to see a link to different types of pictures such as
Wedding Work
Holidays
Monthly Booms
Special Events

or something like that...and then lots of pictures within each category! Maybe even grouping things together within like pics from the same wedding together, pics from different holidays together, etc. You could each pick a different area to work on - there are a ton of pics that I have shared with you in the google album.
Also I think it would be super awesome to have a gallery section in the "About Us" page that has pictures of students working!

To submit - just add a comment or slide or doc or whatever you want to do about what section/pictures you worked on by the end of the week :)

Poinsettia Sales! - Assigned 11/9, Due 11/10 in Google Classroom

Poinsettia Sales! - Assigned 11/9, Due 11/10

We have a very important fundraiser! We have 100 poinsettias reserved to sell this year. We have not been able to do floral orders for events and subscriptions like we normally do so far in 2020. That means that selling poinsettias is very important! There are 56 of you (plus other FFA members, and myself sharing the information with family, friends, and the community) and 100 plants - that means we should be able to sell out easily!

Orders are open now-11/20!

Plants will be ready for pick up starting 12/4

Today's assignment is to post an advertisement! There are 2 posts so far on our FFA Instagram and Facebook Page. You can create a post sharing/reposting them on your own social media pages/stories. Or you can create your own advertisement as well! If you do not have social media - then you can send advertisements to people you know via email, or even print advertisements and post them in the community or give to neighbors, friends, family.

To earn credit for the assignment: submit a screenshot of your social media ads or emails from your sent box, or pictures of your hard copy ad being posted/handed out.

The link for someone to order poinsettias is: bitly.com/lhspoinsettias

Our Facebook is Madera-Liberty FFA
Our Instagram is @madera_libertyffa
Our hashtags are #lhsfloraldesign and #greenandgoldfloralshop

I have also attached the link as well as the advertisements made by the Adv Floral students last week.

Poinsettia Sales Flyers & Ads! - Assigned 11/4, Due 11/5

Create a flyer advertisement (in google docs or slides or Canva or?? ) that we can use to start posting on social media, parent square, emails, etc to advertise our poinsettia sales! $14 each this year, 100 poinsettias available, they are red and will have a foil wrap around the pot. This is an important fundraiser this year for us since we have not been able to have the orders and subscriptions like we normally would have. I also put below the link to also included on the flyer so that people can submit their orders.

Wire Loop Bow Demo Video - Assigned 10/27, Due 10/28

Just like the others, make a demo video for making the wire loop video. I know you probably only have half wires and not whole ones, that is ok, it just won't be as big of a bow. Give steps, and give tips, and all that good stuff! :)

Top Bow/Flag Bow Demo Video - Assigned 10/22, Due 10/23 in Google Classroom

Top Bow/Flag Bow Demo Video - Assigned 10/22, Due 10/23

The slide decks for all of the bows are attached as a materials post.

This first video will be of the top bow or flag bow.

Practice first :)
Especially practice getting your wire tight when securing your bow. You can use plain wire, or you can use wire that has already been taped from previous videos. Show taping over the bottom of the bow/the wrapped wire as well so that they can see a finished product! You can also have "bloopers" of not so good bows...maybe the shiny side is in instead of out, or maybe the loops are the same size instead of staggered, or maybe one loop or tail flag is giant and the other loop is tiny, etc.

Due end of tomorrow so that Intro can use them next week!

Wire Taping Video - Assigned 10/20, Due 10/21 in Google Classroom

Wire Taping Video - Assigned 10/20, Due 10/21

Create a video showing how to tape floral wire. Start with a ticker wire, and then move to the thinner. Show how we will be taping only half wires at a time (and to use the wire cutting notch on the shears to cut the wire)
Show how when done well and tight, if you twist the opposite direction, the tape does not come loose. Could even be really cool to make some "not good" wire taping examples! - loose, super overlapped so that its bunchy, wrinkly, etc!

If you create your video in chunks (which is totally ok) put them into a slide deck so that they are all together in 1 file to share with the intro class. Or if you are crafty, use a video program to mash the clips together into 1 video file.

Due end of tomorrow so that it can be shared with intro at later this week!

The flower pen videos that I have seen so far were great! They are getting shared today with Intro :)

Taping Skills Video 1 - Intro to Tape & Flower Pens - Assigned 10/16, Due 10/19 in Google Classroom

Taping Skills Video 1 - Intro to Tape & Flower Pens - Assigned 10/16, Due 10/19

You are each going to create multiple short videos demonstrating and explaining some basic floral skills. These videos are to refresh your own skills as well as to help teach and give tips to the intro class students.

Your first video should include talking about how floral tape works -that it needs to be stretched and that it will stick to itself but not really to other things. That you leave the tape on the roll until you are finished instead of ripping off a piece to use. That the goals are to keep the tape tight, and smooth, and be efficient with your overlaps so you don’t use more tape than needed. Etc. include why we use tape - covering wires, covering mechanics, creating boutonnières, holding bouquets, adding bows, etc.
you are going to demonstrate on a large item first, such as a pen or pencil. (You may have to practice yourself first since it has been a while!) Show taping at least 2 layers in your video on the pen/pencil and then a 3rd layer to attach a flower or stem of some sort to create a flower pen/pencil. Be sure to narrate as you go, explaining how you hold your hands and use your fingers to make the tape smooth, tight, just the right angles and overlap, etc. Each of your perspectives will be a little different and that is the best part because it will help others to have multiple ways to learn! If you mess up and tape rips or doesn’t look like a great layer, that’s ok, show that too - it’s great for learning, and then show why you don’t like the way it turned out and fixing it. Totally useful!

It does not have to be all one take, you can crop and edit and combine clips and parts to create your tutorial video. If you want to have written explanations or tips or descriptions or sites along with your video you can add captions or you can insert your videos into slides. Be as creative as you want, and use any platform/application that you are familiar with :)

Website Creation Week 3 - Assigned 10/12, Progress Due 10/16 in Google Classroom

Website Creation Week 3 - Assigned 10/12, Progress Due 10/16

Hi gals!
I was looking at the website so far today! You guys are doing awesome!

Things to work on/consider/continue:

The order of the page tabs at the top...I think that About Us should be close to Home, and Payment Options maybe pushed down towards the end.
Social Media - add in links and images
Gallery - I have added more pics to the google album, and have about a semester worth to add still. I am thinking instead of individual pictures randomly (btw I like the little descriptions/titles of them) create a page for each "type" like monthly arrangements, weddings, other event centerpieces, corsages & boutonnieres, etc and then they are more organized and easy for people to look at specific types of work we have done. Also I think add in pics of classes/students working - so that it is seen that it is a student program and you guys do create these awesome arrangements.
Payment page - maybe have a blurb/sentences like at the green and gold floral shop we take payment in the following forms: ...blah blah blah.... about how payments can be made in the LHS office, or mailed in, etc - Just try to make this page and all the pages more personable and warm if that makes sense :)
Same with the services page - I like it so far and all the forms so far have been making good progress - Hannah I sent you some emails on them for the ones I have seen so far.
Add in the wedding brainstorm google doc somewhere too so brides can be thinking of what all to think of
Contact us page - like the others, just add some personable-ness (totally made that word up right now)
Warm, Inviting, Personable along with Professional

I realllllllly like it so far!!!!!!!!!!!

Registering for Floral Ebook & Portal and iCEV Course - Assigned & Due 9/16

Follow the directions to create your account for Cengage/MindTap Floral EBook as well as for iCEV.

iCEV you should be able to use your username and password from last year without registering, just logging in, but then adding the course for this year with the code on the PDF. 3 of you need to still do your certification test that did not get finished last year. Daphnie you passed yours last spring. But it is going to be formatted differently from last year. You will just have to do the unit assessments not all the notes and vocab sheets. My plan is to set days throughout the year that you will all work together to work through the tests in your breakout rooms/in class when we get to be in person again :)

Submit a screenshot showing that you are registered and in the class for both systems. That means you are submitting 2 screenshots! (Except Daphnie you just need to submit 1, and put in the comment that you only need 1 so that it reminds me when it is graded)

Floral/Horticulture Business Project Part 1: Company Choice & Interview Questions - Assigned 9/9 Due 9/10 in Google Classroom

Floral/Horticulture Business Project Part 1: Company Choice & Interview Questions - Assigned 9/9 Due 9/10

You will find a floral or horticulture business that you are interested in learning more about. It can be from any sector of the industry, nursery/growers, floral markets, wholesalers, retailers, suppliers, etc. It does not have to be a local company either. It can be, or it can be a "local company" in another town, or it can be a large company that is all over, it can even be an online order service as long as you can contact them and a person to be able to interview about the company.

Attached is a doc with some starter interview questions, info on writing more questions, and some items you will need to collect from your business.

Submit the doc with the name, location, contact info for the company you are choosing (you can list multiple companies as well just in case if you want) and add in the rest of your interview questions accordingly so that you have at least 10. You may want to have some thoughts on potential extra questions based on answers you may get as well.

This is due tomorrow (Thursday) and then Thursday you will want to start contacting your company or companies to get the info you need. You will be able to work on this in class.

Friday you will get the rest of the directions for the brochure you are going to create with the info you collect. You will also have Monday to work as well. On Tuesday the final project will be due and you will present your companies to your classmates.
